Difference between conical flask and round bottom flask

1. Appearance
Round bottom flask: The bottom is spherical, the bottleneck is a regular straight tube, and the overall appearance is usually round bellied and thin necked.
Cone shaped bottle: made of hard glass with a triangular longitudinal section, wide at the bottom and narrow at the top, with a slender bottleneck, and a conical body.
2. Characteristics
Round bottom flask: The bottom is circular and needs to be fixed with auxiliary equipment such as an iron frame when placed; A round bottom is beneficial for dispersing heat, ensuring uniform internal heating, and can withstand large temperature changes. It can be used for long-term strong heat use.
Cone shaped bottle: with a lower center of gravity and good stability, even if there is a large amount of liquid in the bottle, it is not easy to pour out; The narrow mouth of the bottle can reduce the evaporation of the solution and can also be used in conjunction with a rubber stopper to connect other instruments.
3. Purpose
Round bottom flask: It is a commonly used heating and reaction vessel, widely used in chemical reactions that require heating, depressurization operations, and other experiments. For example, conducting experiments such as distillation, fractionation, and long-term heating reflux. But when heating, asbestos mesh needs to be placed on it and used in conjunction with clamping instruments such as iron frames.
Cone flask: mainly used for titration experiments, facilitating oscillation during the titration process; It can also be used to contain reactants, receive distillation products, conduct chemical reactions, etc., but it is generally not used as a heating container. If heating is required, asbestos mesh should be used.
4. Precautions for use
Round bottom flask: asbestos mesh should be placed under it when heating, and flames should not be used for direct heating; After the experiment is completed, if there are any conduits, they should be removed first to prevent backflow, and then the heat source should be removed. After static cooling, waste liquid treatment and washing should be carried out.
Cone shaped bottle: Although it can be heated, the temperature and time should generally be controlled during heating, and asbestos mesh should also be placed to prevent uneven heating from causing breakage.
